The Electronics Entertainment Expo, commonly referred to as E3, is an industry driven convention for video games and other forms of interactive entertainment, which premiered in 1995. Prior to the premiere of E3, video games were commonly demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show. While the Dreamcast was still actively supported by Sega, independent developers used the show to demonstrate their Dreamcast software.

On May 11, May 12, and May 13, 2000, the sixth annual E3 took place. The commercial emulator that runs some PlayStation games on Dreamcast, bleemcast!, is demonstrated at the expo.

On May 17, May 18, and May 19, 2001, the seventh annual E3 took place. Independent developers distributed a CD of software running on the Dreamcast called DC Tonic.
