The Japanese hardware developer, jj1odm, created the first project to adapt the Dreamcast to read SD cards via the Dreamcast's serial port. It was first refined and released commercially by the Spanish group Emuforge on March 29, 2009.
The downside to this method of reading SD cards is that performance is limited to the relatively low transfer speeds of the serial port.
